July 8: Oil rough start on the canvas following a
photo marked with key point locations
July 13: First coat of heavy underpainting to create
a solid base for what will be a paint-heavy canvas.
July 25: after a long drying time, clouds are
roughed in and some preliminary dense
underpainting for dark water areas are brushed on.
August 7: A lot more progress in all areas. The hull of the boat
required a strong smooth base laid in now so it could dry solidly
before details could be freely painted on, removed and re-done.
August 28: Much more wave work. I
decided the sun was going to need a new solid white base
under it to have proper luminescence in the final rendering.
September 11: per the client’s direction,
the boat is moving at low throttle with a
soft bow-wave consistent with the craft’s
even trim, already painted. Client and hubby added. The new sun,
rendered over the bright white underpainting, shows its power.
September 19: Final touches and signature.
Edges painted all round, guard rails
and topside details added, white sun
reflections on water and all brightwork. One oversight:
the registration numbers (not shown) had to be added later.
